Disability Income Insurance
Protect the paycheck that pays for everything else.
If you could not work for months, how would the bills be paid? Disability income insurance replaces part of your earnings if illness or injury keeps you from working.
New York licensed agent and broker
- Benefit amount
- A monthly payment, usually a percentage of income, set by the policy and the insurer's limits.
- Elimination period
- The waiting time before benefits begin. A longer wait generally lowers the premium.
- Benefit period
- How long benefits can last, from a few years to a stated age.
- Definition of disability
- Whether you must be unable to do your own job or any job. This definition matters more than almost any other term.
- Self-employed people
- There is usually no employer plan to fall back on.
- Employees with group coverage
- Group benefits may be limited, taxable or lost if you change jobs.
- Business owners
- Coverage can also help a company with overhead or buy-out needs. Ask about the options.
Riders for future increases, partial disability and residual benefits, plus the insurer's claim record and financial strength. We show the trade-offs before you apply.
Is New York statutory disability enough?
Statutory benefits are limited in amount and duration. Compare them against your actual expenses.
Can I get coverage with a health history?
Underwriting looks at health and occupation, and terms vary. Ask us early.
We work in your best interest. At or before the time of application we will tell you whether we are acting as your broker or as the insurer's agent, and whether we receive compensation from the insurer. You can ask for details of our compensation at any time (New York Regulation 194).
